SPAN Application

Overview

The SPAN (Spatial Narratives) application is designed to explore and visualize spatial and temporal relationships in narratives using two corpuses:

• Lake District Corpus: Focused on the works and locations associated with the Lake District, including references to Wordsworth, Grasmere, and poetry.
• Holocaust Corpus: Focused on survivor memoirs, locations like Auschwitz, and historical events.

This application provides tools to analyze and illustrate space-time-event relationships in these corpuses through interactive visualizations such as graphs, timelines, and maps.

Features

• Search Functionality: Users can search within the Lake District or Holocaust corpuses. Dynamic placeholders in the search bar provide examples for each corpus.
• Interactive Visualizations: Graphs, timelines, and maps to explore data relationships.
• Dynamic Adjustments: Visualizations adapt to various screen resolutions and container sizes.

How to Use

1. Login: Access the application by logging in through the provided login page.
2. Select a Corpus: Choose between the Lake District Corpus and the Holocaust Corpus using the radio buttons on the home page.
3. Search and Explore: Enter search terms in the search bar to query the selected corpus.
4. Visualize Data: Navigate to the visualization pages to explore data relationships.

Technical Details

• Frontend: Built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Responsive design ensures compatibility with various screen sizes.
• Backend: Developed with Flask. Routes dynamically handle corpus selection and data visualization.
• Data: Stored in structured formats for efficient querying and visualization. Includes Lake District and Holocaust datasets.
